Good afternoon, dear judges. Today my speech is “I love black-facedspoonbill.
On a beautiful winter day, I happened to meet the lovely spirit------
Black Faced Spoonbill, a type of migratory bird, which spends winter atHong-Shu-Lin in my city every year. Covered with snow-white feathers, it hasblack legs and a black beak. Besides the blacks and whites, an amazing splash ofyellow is under its neck. So elegant that I couldn’t help loving it at firstsight.
With a big and spoon-shaped beak, it can clasp fishes easily, which makesit a powerful hunter in birds.
However, with human expansion and pollution, only around 20__ ones areliving all over the world.
Like the eleven swan princes in Andersen’s Fairy Tale, the Black FacedSpoonbills have always been struggling to find a tiny rock which can offer thema momentary tranquility. Fortunately, they have found one in my beloved home. Iwould always hold them dearly to my heart and wish they would return with flocksof chicks in the following years, and singing……
Oh, I have a home, such a beautiful home, where I play and resthappily.
Oh, give them a home, such a wonderful home, where the spoonbills play allday.
Thank you very much.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen:
The title of my speech today is “The Doors that Are Open to Us ”.
The other day my aunt paid me a visit. She was overjoyed. “I got the highest mark in the mid-term examination!” she said. Don"t be surprised! My aunt is indeed a student; to be exact, a college student at the age of 45.
Last year, she put aside her private business and signed up for a one-year, full-time management course in a college. “This was the wisest decision I have ever made,” she said proudly like a teenage girl. To her, college is always a right place to pick up new ideas, and new ideas always make her feel young.
“Compared with the late 70s,” she says, “now college students have many doors.” My aunt cannot help but recall her first college experience in 1978 when college doors began to be re-opened after the Cultural Revolution. She was assigned to study engineering despite her desire to study Chinese literature, and a few years later, the government sent her to work in a TV factory.
I was shocked when she first told me how she (had) had no choice in her major and job. Look at us today! So many doors are open to us! I believe there have never been such abundant opportunities for self-development as we have today. And my aunt told me that we should reach our goals by grasping all these opportunities.
The first door I see is the opportunity to study different kinds of subjects that interest us. My aunt said she was happy to study management, but she was also happy that she could attend lectures on ancient Chinese poetry and on Shakespearean drama. As for myself, I am an English major, but I may also go to lectures on history. To me, if college education in the past emphasized specialization, now, it emphasizes free and well-rounded development of each individual. So all the fine achievements of human civilization are open to us.
The second door is the door to the outside world. Learning goes beyond classrooms and national boundaries. My aunt remembers her previous college days as monotonous and even calls her generation “frogs in a well.” But today, as the world becomes a global village, it is important that our neighbors and we be open-minded to learn with and from each other. I have many fellow international classmates, and I am applying to an exchange program with a university abroad. As for my aunt, she is planning to get an MBA degree in the United Kingdom where her daughter, my cousin, is now doing her master"s degree in biochemistry. We are now taking the opportunity to study overseas, and when we come back, we"ll put to use what we have learnt abroad.
The third door is the door to lifelong learning. As new ideas appear all the time, we always need to acquire new knowledge, regardless of our age. Naturally, my aunt herself is the best example. Many of my aunt"s contemporaries say that she is amazingly up-to-date for a middle-aged woman. She simply responds,“Age doesn"t matter. What matters is your attitude. You may think it"s strange that I am still going to college, but I don"t think I"m too old to learn.”Yes, she is right. Since the government removed the age limit for college admissions in 20xx, there are already some untraditional students, sitting with us in the same classrooms. Like these people, my aunt is old but she is very young in spirit. With her incredible energy and determination, she embodies both tradition and modernity.
The doors open to us also pose challenges. For instance, we are faced with the challenge of a balanced learning, the challenge of preserving our fine tradition while learning from the West, and the challenge of learning continuously while carrying heavy responsibilities to our work and family. So, each door is a test of our courage, ability and judgment, but with the support of my teachers, parents, friends and my aunt, I believe I can meet the challenge head on. When I reach my aunt"s age, I can be proud to say that I have walked through dozens of doors and will, in the remainder of my life, walk through many more. Possibly I will go back to college, too.
Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen.
good afternoon, Ladies and gentlemen . The title of my speech is " The development of traditional culture " :
The 21st century has started a new history . Great changes have taken place in the world because of the prosperous development of technology and science . Some of you might have noticed that more and more people around us have started to learn a second language besides English . But maybe you will ask me “Isn?t it a good thing ?” No , absolutely not . It certainly meets the objective request of the economic
globalization .While we accept western culture, some of us lost themselves in the ?cultural sea?. Chances are that we are likely to lose our own traditional cultures . So ,the cultural globalization which is caused by economic globalization may be harmful to our country?s scientific development.
As is well known to all , culture is the pillar of science .But there exist two
phenomenon in the process of globation . One is some people called ?Mr West ? 。They accept western culture without any judgement , and they don?t care whether it is good or not . For instance ,maybe someone has found that western festivals are more and more popular such as Christmas and Valentine’s day. At the same time ,Chinese traditional festivals are fading away in our memories .we can?t image how a country could develop with its own culture lost. Well , another is called ? Mr Old ? , in the contrary , they refuse to accept any other cultures , they blame that cultural
globalization is a disaster . To our surprise , they absolutely don?t know that
exchanging culture communication can advance the development of science and technology .
Absolutely affirm or deny a culture for our development isn?t a wise choice it isn’t a wise choice to completely accept or deny a culture.. I?m glad to hear that our party implemented a policy which is called sustainable development and tries their best to

Unity and Diversity -- Common Progress in Different Regions
In recent years, the development of the Chinese economy has been incredibly fast, some might even call it miraculous. But behind the miracles lies a problem: the development is unbalanced in different regions.
Under the strategy of the Chinese government, China has three major economic regions: the east, the middle and the west. With its advantageous position, the east is the fastest developing area, leaving the west far behind, and the middle somewhere in between. For instance, the GDP per capita in the east amounts to US$20xx, while that of the west is only 40% of the east.
Furthermore, the gap between the urban and the rural, according to the State Statistical Bureau, has widened to more than 10 years. There are people in the big cities with large houses, expensive cars, other luxuries and better opportunities. However, there are people in the countryside, living on meager food, without the security of health, education, and so on.
This is the diversity of the Chinese economy. For the unity of the full national economic development, governments of all levels have decided on corresponding strategies, for example, the greater development of the western region, the continuing rise of the central China, and the faster development of the east. Specifically, within the west, provinces alike have established programs of development, with financial and technological aid of the central government, making full use of the western natural resources. Such strategies have turned out to be remarkably successful.
It reminds me of the world. There are wealthy countries in North America and Europe; there are poor ones in Asia and Africa. The aid from the rich world is far from enough to remove poverty in the developing countries. Therefore, with the help of funds, technology, and management from wealthy countries, these developing countries now have the opportunity to establish their own right strategies of development, taking full advantage of their natural and human resources.
If their strategies succeed, in the years to come, I hope to see such a world: everyone, white or black, brown or yellow, can stand side by side, equal, happy, and harmonious. There is diversity; there is unity.
Speech of Li Mengxia, Harbin Engineering University
Unity and Diversity -- Diversity Talks
A couple of days ago, I saw the newly enrolled freshmen in the military training under the glowing sun. They wear the same, move the same, eat the same, and sing together, they do everything under one same command without an exception. I could see sweet smiles on their faces though the heat of summer was melting them. Why? Because this is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for
them to feel no different from others. No matter where you are from, rich or poor, boy or girl, you are part of this battalion; you are comparatively insignificant but absolutely irreplaceable.
This is a force. It’s unity.
We are the world because of unity. It enables the international co-operational manufacture by setting up unified standards for everything. A nail produced in China can be perfectly used in any corner of the world.
Therefore, it is unity that leads world into a perfect harmony!
However, don’t you think it’s a little bit boring with unity ruling the world only? What would you do if someone orders you to do whatever he does without allowing you to do what you really want? Apparently, you’ll be going nuts, because you are not leading a life of your own. So, to us, diversity talks!
Before I went to college, my dad asked me: son, did you think of being outstanding? If you want to be outstanding, you have to stand out, stand out of normal routine which other people consider the only way to success.
But dad’s words went in one ear and out the other! I had no idea whether dad was right or wrong until the day I found I was no longer myself. I put myself in a jar full of people. I work when they work, I panic when they panic, and I waste time when they waste time. This is no laughing matter but a horrible disaster. Afterwards, I kept telling myself: I am a student, and I do what a student should do. This is our unity. But does this mean we have to sacrifice our diversity to save the orderly image of unity? Not exactly! Unity stops us getting into chaos while diversity makes life colorful.
From then on, my long-covered specialty was evoked and set me on a special track to my dreams.
I got back what I had lost. It’s a great feeling that you realize you still have the ability to surprise yourself: I found a part-time job as an oral-English teacher in a private school. I love English and work joyfully though my major has nothing to do with English at all. I stood out and made a difference. I found “I am what I am, and I am happy to be me.”
Ladies and gentlemen, one color is dull, but the combination of 7 colors is rainbow. Remember that you are no different, and this is how you get confident; engrave it in your heart that you are unique, and this is how you get successful! Thank you!

Whether there"s afterlife, the answer has never been the same. The atheists deny after life, believing that our life is no more than from the cradle to the grave. They may care about their illustrious names after death; they may feel attached to the affection of their offspring, but they never lay their hopes on their afterlife. They may also say that good will be rewarded with good, and evil with evil, but they don"t really believe any retribution in their after life.
However, in the religious world or among the superstitious people, the belief in afterlife is very popular. They do not only believe in afterlife, but thousands of reincarnations as well. In the mysterious world, there are the paradise and the hell, the celestial beings and the gods, the Buddha and the Bodhisattvas.
Maybe they really believed it, or maybe they just wanted to make use of people"s veneration, the ancient emperors always declared that they were the real dragons, the sons of God, while the royal ministers claimed to be the reincarnations of various constellations. But can the stars reincarnate?
Many people burn incense and kowtow, do good deeds and strive for virtues, not just for the present, but mainly to let God see their sincerity so as to be reborn into a better afterlife, or to achieve the highest enlightenment after several lives of practice. They do believe in afterlife. But I can"t help asking: Suppose there were no afterlife, would you still do good deeds and strive for virtues? And If God does not see what you are doing, would you still be so upright and selfless? If you work, not for serving the public and liberating the others, but just for a better afterlife of your own, isn"t it a little too selfish? Comparing with this kind of believers, those who don"t believe in afterlife, but still keep doing good deeds, are the most sincere and honest philanthropists, because they do them not for themselves but for other.
You may wonder if I believe in afterlife. My answer is: I know nothing about my previous life, so I dare not make improper comments on afterlife. But I do hope there"s afterlife! Because our present life is so short that so many things slip away before our proper understanding. I have so many dreams, so many wishes, so many ambitions, as well as so many regrets and concerns. If there were no afterlife, all of them will remain unrealized!
I"m not contented with the present commonplace life, I"m very much attached to the affections that should have been mine but have been washed away by the hurrying time, and I yearn for the perfection and maturity if I could start all over again. So believe it or not, I"d rather there were afterlife.
When I saw the titile of this essay I am supposed to be writing about, all I felt were its broadness and abstractness. Though I am a Chinese myself, it had always seemed complicated to tell how much exactly my nationality meant to me until that unforgettable experience in the Chinese Embassy at the U.K, which made a significant difference to my life. Only when I was abroad did I realize how proud I always was for my great country and clarify the relationship between China and me, referring it to that between a mother and a child desperate for help.
It was in the London Heathrow International Airport that our passports and airplane tickets were stolen a few minutes before the plane took off. Despaired and tired as we were, we wandered on the flourishing streets of London and felt isolated from all the nearby lighthearted laughters. It didn"t take a long time for the lingering homesickness hit us and reminded us of the Chinese Embassy at the U.K that might be our sheet anchor. Ages passed while we walked to the embassy, suffering from hunger and helplessness with every step we took. Sure enough, our eyes were unconsciously filled with tears when we finally reached the spot. I was taken by surprise when the brightly-colored Chinese national flag broke through the darkness and appeared once again in front of my eyes, recalling all the pleasure I had at home. It suddenly felt as if I was taken home, a home where all my fear and anxiety vanished and replaced by the hope and warmth that ran all over my body to cheer me up. The ambassadors were all amiable Chinese officers and the familiar Chinese accent drew me closer to my motherland where we received the only help. The ambassadors made us noodles in the familiar Chinese way and settled the accommodation for us. I had tears running down my cheeks when the hot noodles, smelled as pleasant as my mother"s at home, filled my stiff empty stomach because I knew I was safe in the arms of my compatriots and there was no need to be worried anymore for I knew I was home.
We successfully returned to Beijing the next day and I still couldn"t forget the moment when I felt so much closer to my motherland than any other time given, as though our hearts were beating in one melody. Had my motherland not saved the day, we would never came back home so quickly without any restriction. For that one brief second when I was handed the brand new passport with a Chinese flag printed on it, my heart was overflowed with the pride for my own nation because never has a country I known connected to its people so close as the way my motherland and us related. I was like a child, crying and desperate for help while my mother China is the harbor to hold me, this small vulnerable boat. Even though I was out of home, my motherland remained inseparated from me no matter how far I go and is always there to help me back on track whenever in need. I wish you a happy birthday, China. I am so proud of you not only because of your obvious amazing pace in economical development, but also due to the relieved and warm way I felt when I was abroad and enjoyed your ray of love shone on my body and heart. You are the spirits dancing in my blood, the strength holding up my body and and essence making up my soul. I am so honored as a Chinese, a member of this dynamic and loving country. For your development and future, it is my responsibility to settle you safely through all the numerous difficulties until we finally make it to the bank where happinese and prosperity is waiting. I love you, China, my dearest mother!
Let me begin my speech with a replay of scenes familiar to most, if not all, of those present here today. “Mum, I"m sorry, but I need 3,000 yuan for my tuition this year.”
“Mum, it is my friend"s birthday tomorrow, I must buy her a present.”
“Mum, this jacket was out of fashion long ago, would you do me a favor? ”
Take. Take. Take. The relationship between a mother and a child always seems to follow such a pattern. I know my mother is always there for me, providing me with everything I need; from food to clothing, from tuition to pocket money. I never thought twice about all she did until one day she said, “Will there be a time that you"ll say you have taken enough from me? ”
Like a child endlessly asking, we humans, throughout history, have been continually demanding what we desire from nature. We enjoy the comfort and beauty of our furniture, yet we never bother to think about the serious soil erosion caused by deforestation. We take it for granted that we must warm ourselves in winter times, yet we seldom realize the burning away of precious natural resources. We appreciate all the prosperity from the development of modern industry, yet few would give the slightest consideration to the global air and water pollution caused by industrial wastes. Our ruthless exploitation has permanently impaired our mother earth. As we tragically learned from last summer"s floods. we cannot continue our carelessness.
Finally, standing here at the threshold of the 21st century, we cannot help thinking of our posterity. Nature is not only the mother of the present generation, but also the mother of the generations to come. How severely our descendents will criticize us if we leave them a barren and lifeless mother? How much more they will appreciate us if we give them a world of harmony to inherit? Let us start respecting and caring for nature from now on. Let us start the campaign of creating a mutually beneficial relationship between people and nature right from this moment. With this new start, I firmly believe, that our children, and our children"s children will live in a brand new age of green trees, clean air, crystal water, blue sky and an even more promising world!
When Henry ford decided to produce his famous v-8 motor, he chose to build an engine with the entire eight cylinders cast in one block, and instructed his engineers to produce a design in one for the engine. The design was placed on paper, but the engineers agreed, to a man, that it was simply impossible to cast an eight-cylinder engine-block in one piece.
Ford said, “Produce it anyway.”
“But,” they replied, “It’s impossible!”
“Go ahead.” Ford commanded, “And stay on the job until you succeed, no matter how much time is required.”
The engineers went ahead. There was nothing else for them to do, if they were to remain on the ford staff. Six months passed and nothing happened. Another six months passed, and still nothing happened. The engineers tried every conceivable plan to carry out the orders, but the thing seemed out of the question:“impossible!”
At the end of the year ford checked with his engineers, and again they informed him they had found no way to carry out his orders.
“go right head,” said ford, “I want it, and I’ll have it.”
They went ahead, and then, as if by a stroke of magic, the secret was discovered.
The ford determination had won once more!
This story may not be described with minute accuracy, but the sum and substance of it is correct. Deduce from it, you who wish to think and grow rich, the secret of the ford millions, if you can. You’ll not have to look very far.
Henry ford was successful, because he understood and applied the principles of success. One of these is desire: knowing out the lines in which the secret of his stupendous achievement have been described. If you can do this, if you can lay your finger on the particular group of principles which made Henry ford rich, you can equal his achievements in almost any calling for which you are suited.
Good morning , boys and girls. I am pu lijuan and glad to give you a speech about stress.
Psychologist tell us that stress is a state of worry caused by the problem of living , such as too much work or study , heavy responsibilities .
Statistics show that stress comes from every detail in our life . Financial problems , poor health , being laid off may be the stress that most adults now are suffering . As students in the university , we are also under our special stress . While study , having to take various tests and submit a project against a deadline may put a great pressure on us . And the things that make us felt stressed may be our parents’s greater expectations on us than we could reach . Later , when we are likely to graduate , some other problems will also annoy us . I think we will worry a lot about our ability to compete in the job market and how we can best use what we’ve learned at college in our future job .
The chief problem we should face to is our attitude towards stress .People usually say they can not live in the sun except they escape from stress . It’s
unwelcome ! Yes , however , very necessary . Just image a world where stress does not exist and people lead their life in a very comfortable way . But is this kind of living condition as perfect as we hope ? Without
stress , they may feel very satisfied with the current life but lack of power to discover new things . Too much satisfaction result in nothing except a countermarch of the society . No stress , no development . So a certain amount of stress is good . It can stimulate us and increase our level of alertness .
And our answer to stress is another vital problem . How to do with ourselves when stress suddenly break into our life ? To wave the white flag and admit our unability , to give up to our ideality , or worsely , just to suicide as to put an end to everything … Of cause not . The principle is to tackle with stress gently and
harmoniously. We should try our best to release
ourselves . Such as to do some exercise , to listen to t music to ease our minds and to learn to view these
changes of life as challenges .It’s no use crying over spilt milk . Only to accept what has happened can solve the problem .Ok , I think I was under large stress 5 minutes before , but now I am here and have finished my speech . Here is the last thing I want to add to my topic ,face to it and overcome it ,stress is also a piece of cake .
That is all . Thank you very much!
to my beloved mother

First I must say the campus life is really different from what I have experienced in high school. For instance,I used to lean upon my dormitory teache
r to wake me up on time. But now I have to set several alarm clocks to make myself could hear them in the morning otherwise I would miss my class. And then even worse there would be nobody remind me
except my teacher! So the differences are everywhere and I could easily find them. The change of life is great and it’s wonderful:I have more time of my own and the rights to decide how I live.
My campus activities are rich and colorful.Learning English has become a habit to me cause I plan to study abroad in next few years.Playing Guzheng is my favorite activity.I have kept on practising it since I was a little girl and I wish to win more competitions in my campus life.
Our university has the first level equipments and the most experienced teachers, also has the best students(laugh).I consider it to be a honor that I’ve got a chance to study here and I sincerely hope that we could live wonderful lives in our campus!
Self-confidence is the mother of success
Hi, this is SunYang, I come from the college of food science. I have always been an outgoing and curious person and enjoy many thing, in particular reading, swimming and playing basketball with my friends. Thought I have many interests, english is what I like the most. I want to keep on learning new things to improve myself and broaden my horizons. I am very greatful for the chance you give to me to speak about myself in this special occasion. I hope everybody has a good and productive time here. Today the speech I want to give you is Self-confidence is the mother of success
As is known to us all, a famous proverb says “failure is the mother of success”. Yes , it’s true. History informs us that stories of success are also stories of great failure. As a matter of fact. There are many factors that can contribute to a preson’s success in life. Today I will give you a new idea―self-confidence is the mother of success. Success is getting up one more time than you fall down. But when failures knocks you down. Will you have the confidence to get up?So self-confidence is essential to success .
Self-confidence means the firm belief that you can do things well. It is believed to be the first secret of success. If you want to succeed in doing anything, you must have confidence in your abilities. and I
deeply aware that nothing can defeat a person who full of confidence.
Self-confidence gives you light when you are in dark, and gives you encouragement when you are disappointed. It is self-confidence that inspires you to cope with any hard task. With self-confidence, you believe that you can and will succeed, and this gives you the courage to try new things.
Some people find most of the things impossible, saying, “It is beyond my ability to do the task.” or “I am not fit for it.” these are only lame excuses. When our heart is void of self-confidence, every hope is gone, we will always living in the moments of fear and thoughtless.

In our daily lives, we have many choices to make, such as what to eat for supper, what clothes to wear, or what to do on weekends. At certain times in our lives, we need to make even more critical choices, such as which school to attend, what job to take or who to choose as husband or wife. Yes, life is a matter of choice. Seemimgly, it means a choice of tangible things. But in essence, it means choosing a way of life. Life is to be lived, savored, and enjoyed, not to be wasted or complained about.
Hardly can we forget the time when our society faced the grave threat from the life-and-death disease--SARS. Yet, even during those dreadful times, some afflicted people remained optimistic. Instead of wearing neutral white masks, some people turned to colouful ones, and thus display a happy mood. And some creative people dubbed SARS to mean "SMILE AND REMAIN SMILING." I was deeply touched by their optimisim, nearly forgetting that we"re still in a battle. people who survive these kinds of circumstances, (at some point)decide in their minds to carry on in spite of the overwhelming odds.
laid-off workers, typically regarded as the victims of economic advancement, are subject to desperation that being unmeployed has brought on them. But, encouragingly, we have witnessed some of them striving hard to rebuild confidence toward life and discover new opportunities for demonstrating their values.
Although we cannot choose our appearance, inborn gifts and even avoid unexpected disasters and adversities, we do have the privilege to choose to live optimistcally,to love our lives, to have dreams, and to cherish hopes.
Every morning when we get up, we have a choice of how we want to approach life that day. As for me, I choose to be cheerful.
We Are Family 20xx is a special year for Beijing for the Olympic Games. It is a special year for me too. I watched 8 games. The Olympic Games let me know, for all of the people in the world, we are family. In the 16 days, I saw different people from different countries. I heard different languages in the world. I sat next to English, American, Canadian and Korean when watching hockey games. I shouted “Go! Go! Go!” with Argentinian and Serbian when watching football match. In the Olympic Park, Australian friends shared their small gifts with Russian, German, French and Chinese. Everybody from different countries smiled at each other. Everybody was friendly to each other in these 16 days.
This is Olympic. It brings friendship, it brings peace.
I will remember the Beijing Olympic Games in my life.
In 20xx, I understand, we are living in earth village.
I believe, we are family of the world.
My speech is over. Thanks!
