Lesson 117 Tommy’s breakfast
When my husband was going into the dining room this morning, he dropped some coins on the floor. There were coins everywhere. We looked for them, but we could not find them all. While we were having breakfast, our little boy, Tommy, found two small coins on the floor. He put them both into his mouth. We both tried to get the coins, but it was too late. Tommy had already swallowed them! Later that morning, when I was doing the housework, my husband telephoned me from the office. “How’s Tommy?” he asked. “I don’t know,” I answered, “Tommy’s been to the toilet three times this morning, but I haven’t had any change yet!”

二、每课一句
When my husband was going into the dining room this morning, he dropped some coins on the floor.
本课侧重学习的是过去进行时的用法。
（一）构成方式
was/were doing
其中，was/were是助动词，doing是现在分词。
（二）基本用法
表示过去某个时刻或时段正在进行的动作。如：
When I entered the room, she was sleeping.
（三）标志词
1、时刻+过去时间
如：at five yesterday afternoon
He was working in the garden at four yesterday afternoon.
2、时段+过去时间
如：from three to five yesterday afternoon
The boy was reading in the library from nine to eleven yesterday morning.
（四）动词的现在分词的变化规则
1、直接+ing，如：working, playing, aiming。
2、以不发音的e结尾，去e再+ing，如：live - living, arrive - arriving。
3、以重读闭音节结尾，双写+ing，如：stopping, cramming。
5、不规则，如：lie - lying, die - dying, tie - tying。

注意when与while引导时间状语从句时的区别：
1、when
when sb. was/ were doing / did sth., sb. was / were doing /did sth.
如：
When he came in, his son was playing the piano.
When he was playing the piano, his father came in.
2、while
while sb. was/ were doing sth., sb. was / were doing /did sth.
如：
He came in while his son was playing the piano.
While he was playing the piano, his father came in.
